- Russians were told about the dangers of using non-original products in everyday life
In pursuit of savings, consumers can choose non-original household goods, but such a "benefit" can turn into serious problems. On August 18, an expert from the online hypermarket for professionals and businesses All Tools told Izvestia about why the use of fakes in everyday life can be not only ineffective, but also dangerous to health.<url> Maxim Sokolov.
"Non-original tools and equipment are often manufactured in violation of technological standards and from cheap materials. For example, the body of a budget drill or screwdriver can be made of fragile plastic, which, if dropped unsuccessfully, cracks, forming sharp edges that can injure the user," the expert noted.
However, hidden defects are much more dangerous: poor-quality insulation of wires is often found in cheap electronics, which increases the risk of electric shock, and fake batteries can overheat, emit harmful substances, and even explode.
According to him, it is most dangerous to buy fakes among power tools, welding and gardening equipment with engines, as well as household appliances and lighting devices. In these categories, savings can result in a short circuit, fire, or mechanical failure during operation. For example, cheap welding inverters are often equipped with an incorrect protection system, which leads to overheating and even electric shock. And garden equipment uses low-quality parts that wear out quickly, which increases the risk of injury to the user.
"Problems are especially common with non-original chargers and extension cords. Cheap analogues use thin wires and weak transformers that overheat and can ignite during prolonged operation," the expert shared.
Fake network filters also cannot withstand the declared load: the housing melts, and this is a direct threat of short circuit and fire. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, up to 30% of household fires are related to faulty electrical appliances, and a significant part of the cases are caused by counterfeit products.
According to Sokolov, the use of non—original components — brushes for electric motors, batteries, gears - also reduces the service life of equipment. Such parts do not meet factory tolerances, cause increased wear and vibration, which can lead not only to rapid breakage, but also to injury. For example, a cheap pinion in a rotary hammer quickly wears off and jams the tool at the most inopportune moment.
The expert advises buying equipment from trusted online stores and always requesting a dealer's certificate, an official document confirming the right to sell brand goods. In addition, if the price of the product is significantly lower than the market average, it is worth considering its origin. It is also important to carefully inspect the packaging: fakes often have poor-quality printing, errors in the brand name, logo, or instructions. Original products are provided with a unique serial number, which can be checked on the manufacturer's website, and the kit must include instructions and a warranty card.
"You should not trust too cheap goods. Savings on tools and equipment often result in much higher repair costs or even damage to health and property," Sokolov concluded.
Earlier, on July 11, Dmitry Morev, director of information security at RuStore, warned about a new type of fraud through fake push notifications. According to him, the attackers exploit users' trust in mobile interfaces by disguising their actions under standard transaction confirmation procedures, and thus gain access to bank accounts, accounts and personal data.
