The endocrinologist told about the hidden harm of sunflower seeds
Endocrinologist Evgenia Baiturova said that fresh seeds contain a significant amount of vitamins and trace elements, but they should be consumed in moderation — no more than a handful and not every day.
In an interview with Lenta. On Friday, August 15, she reported that the fried seeds retain a minimal amount of useful substances due to heat treatment, while they contain a high proportion of vegetable oil and salt. According to Baiturova, this product can contribute to weight gain, as people often do not control the amount they eat, and 100 g of seeds contains about 600 calories.
"Cadmium is often found in fried seeds from popular manufacturers — it is a heavy metal and a toxic element that accumulates in the body and can cause the development of various pathologies over time," the specialist said.
Over time, this can lead to various pathologies, such as impaired kidney function, calcium excretion from bones, an increased risk of osteoporosis, as well as problems with reproductive function in men and women.
In addition, the expert added that frying in oil, which does not change in a timely manner, saturates the seeds with carcinogens that can further provoke various diseases, including cancer. If you can't completely give up the habit of nibbling sunflower seeds, the doctor recommended at least limiting their number.
Chemist Andrey Dorokhov warned on August 8 about the risk of bacterial disease due to watermelon. According to him, bacteria, including conditionally pathogenic strains of the intestinal group, actively multiply in a sweet environment. To avoid this, watermelon should be stored in an airtight glass or food container in the refrigerator. The shelf life should not exceed 72 hours.
Gastroenterologist Evgenia Melnikova also told who should not abuse watermelons. According to her, watermelon is rich in fructose, a simple sugar that is processed in the liver. Its use should be limited for hyperkalemia, liver diseases (hepatitis, cirrhosis) and disorders of carbohydrate metabolism, such as obesity and diabetes, reports RT.
Prior to that, on August 7, allergist-immunologist Lyudmila Vasilenko, in an interview with the Moscow City News agency, warned that people allergic to weed pollen should avoid watermelon and melon, since their use can cause life-threatening Quincke's edema.
