- The United States warned about the exhaustion of Soviet ammunition reserves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Ukrainian troops have almost exhausted their stocks of Soviet-made artillery and rocket ammunition. This became known on August 15 from the report on the US Operation Atlantic Resolve.
"As of this quarter, Ukraine has almost exhausted its reserves of Soviet artillery and rocket ammunition, which has made the Ukrainian Armed Forces almost completely dependent on Western assistance," the document says.
According to the US Department of Defense, Ukraine's air defense assets and F-16 fighter jets are still insufficient to protect against the overwhelming number of Russian missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, which cause additional damage to military and civilian infrastructure.
Earlier, on July 2, Anatoly Matviychuk, a former special forces officer and retired colonel, told Izvestia about the lack of air and missile defense systems in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He suggested that the Ukrainian troops could start saving ammunition, which would certainly affect the army's combat capability.
