The strengthening of the ruble had a major impact on the parallel import segment of the car market. Nikolay Ivanov, director of the New Car Sales department at Rolf, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta about this on August 15.

"The exchange rate of the yuan against the ruble is now about 11 rubles. At the beginning of the year, this value was about 14 rubles. Minus 20%. And this, of course, has affected the prices of new cars that are imported into Russia," Ivanov said.

According to the expert, the Toyota RAV4 supplied from China has fallen in price by one million rubles, the Toyota Highlander — by one and a half million. BMW X3 in the old body, which cost about 8.5 million rubles at the beginning of the year, now the new Long version is available at a price of 7.4-7.5 million rubles.

The cost of the Tank 700 in the Edition One package and the BMW X5, imported from Europe, "almost equaled," said Nikolai Ivanov. There is no longer a huge price difference between European brands and Chinese manufacturers' cars, he believes. This fact increases the demand for popular models supplied to Russia by alternative means.

Sergey Tselikov, General Director of the Autostat analytical agency, said on August 8 that alternative imports accounted for 48% of new passenger cars in July. According to him, 28.3 thousand new passenger cars were imported to Russia last month. Of these, 13.5 thousand cars entered our country using various alternative schemes.

The most frequently imported cars were Toyota (19.9%), Geely (10.9%), BMW (7.6%), Mazda (6.7%) and Lixiang (5.8%). The most popular models are Geely Monjaro (903 units), Toyota Highlander (764 units), Toyota RAV4 (746 units), Mazda CX-5 (688 units), Toyota Camry (549 units).
