6.5 magnitude aftershock recorded in Kamchatka

An aftershock of magnitude 6.5 was recorded in Kamchatka, 97 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This was announced on August 15 in the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences" (FITCGS RAS).

"UTC time: August 15th 2025, 10:11:51. <...> Magnitude: 6.5," the message says in the Telegram channel of the branch.

It is specified that the seismic event occurred at a depth of 48 km.

Earlier, on August 12, there was a magnitude 5.5 earthquake in the Pacific Ocean near the Japanese island of Hokkaido. It is specified that the hearth lay at a depth of 19 km.

On August 13, a magnitude 5.5 aftershock was recorded in Kamchatka at a distance of 211 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The seismic event was recorded at a depth of 59.8 km.
