President of the Russian Cynological Federation Vladimir Golubev on Friday, August 15, explained why the dog hunts for sneakers and socks.

In an interview with Radio 1, he noted that a pet's interest in certain objects is usually related to the owner's reaction. When a dog takes away a slipper or sock, the owners tend to return it, and this is perceived by the animal as a game, which encourages them to repeat such actions.

The dog handler said that when a pet takes things away, it does not consider it theft, but perceives objects as free for capture. This is especially true for puppies who explore the world around them and pull interesting things in their teeth. Sneakers and socks attract dogs due to the smell of the owner, which calms them down, as well as the ease of carrying away.

If a pet spoils things in the absence of people, this may indicate its anxiety, the specialist noted. In such cases, it is important to remove dangerous objects and create a comfortable environment for the animal. It is recommended to use sturdy toys and turn on background noise, such as a TV or radio. Golubev stressed that scolding a dog for such behavior should not be done, as it only exacerbates stress and does not help to understand the true causes.

On August 7, Golubev explained why a dog can't be vegan. He stressed that a person should not project their habits, emotions and lifestyle onto dogs: humans and dogs are different biological species, writes RT. According to the expert, dogs are predators and their bodies need animal proteins. If the owner does not like the look of raw meat, you can choose ready—made feeds in which the protein source is meat, poultry, fish, eggs or even insects.

Later, on August 10, Golubev told Izvestia how to properly raise small dogs. According to him, puppies need training. Even if the pet is very small and cute in appearance, first of all it is a dog. And an animal, depending on its age and breed, is entitled to a certain amount of physical and cognitive stress.

In an interview with the Moscow City News agency, a dog handler said on August 5 that a dog during puberty can become aggressive and react worse to commands due to a hormonal surge. According to him, the number of walks with a dog should be increased, but the pet should be kept on a leash and always control the situation when meeting other animals.
