Matvienko stressed the high level of strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the DPRK

Relations between Russia and the DPRK have reached a qualitatively new level of comprehensive strategic partnership. On August 15, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko announced this in a congratulatory message to Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK Choi Ryong Hae on the occasion of the Liberation Day of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese colonial rule.

"We are pleased to note the progressive development of relations between the Russian Federation and the DPRK, which have reached a qualitatively new level of comprehensive strategic partnership," TASS quoted her as saying.

According to Matvienko, the positions of Russia and the DPRK on many issues of world politics are close or completely coincide. She also noted the historical role of the Russian Federation in the liberation of Korea from Japanese control.

"Russian soldiers went into battle shoulder to shoulder with their Korean comrades, which contributed to the final defeat of the Japanese imperialists. The Russian-Korean friendship was forged and tempered in the joint struggle," the Federation Council Chairman emphasized.

Friendly vow: Russia and North Korea will increase trade volumes

The republic is also ready to receive Russian tourists.

During a telephone conversation on August 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un confirmed their commitment to further develop friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. During the conversation, Putin warmly congratulated the Korean leader on the upcoming 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

Matvienko said at a bilateral meeting with representatives of the DPRK on July 29 that relations between Moscow and Pyongyang had reached unprecedented heights in recent years. She stressed that Russia and the DPRK are linked by decades of strong friendship and close good neighborliness. According to her, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement has become evidence of good relations between the two countries.
