- The archbishop of the church in Anchorage pointed to the common history of the Russian Federation and the United States
On August 15, Archbishop Alexy of St. Innocent's Church told Izvestia about Alaska and his trips to Russia, pointing to the common history of the Russian Federation and the United States.
"This place (Alaska. — Ed.), which Russia treasured very much. When I come to Russia, they are happy to host a bishop from Alaska. We have a common history," he said.
According to the archbishop, if there is a common history, it is possible to achieve greater mutual understanding. In addition, he stressed that the dialogue between the states inspires hope for a peaceful settlement.
On the same day, a peace service was held in the church of St. Innocent. The Izvestia correspondent noted that the prayers are in English, but the words are also heard in Russian.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump will meet at the Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base in Anchorage on August 15 at about 11:30 local time (22:30 Moscow time). The central theme of the summit will be the discussion of the Ukrainian conflict.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
