- Two new species of mushrooms have been discovered in the Sikhote-Alin Nature Reserve
New species of fungi belonging to pleurotoid agaricomycetes have been discovered in the Sikhote-Alinsky Nature Reserve. This was announced on August 15 by the press service of the reserve.
It is specified that the fungi found belonging to pleurotoid agaricomycetes do not have pronounced legs, they also have semicircular or fan-shaped caps.
Scientists named one of the discoveries Crepidotus Sokolov in honor of Vladimir Sokolov, an employee of the reserve. It has small reddish-brown fruit bodies and settles only on the trunks of the Maximovich poplar. The main feature of the species is its spores, which are spherical in shape and covered with many microscopic spines. They can only be seen under an electron microscope.
The second find is Indian Crepidotus. Scientists first described this type of mushroom seven years ago in India, then discovered them in North America, and now in Russia. Indian crepidotus has a bright orange-pink cap 1-2 cm in size and prefers to settle on the fallen trunks of the Maximovich poplar.
"Both species play an important role in forest ecosystems — they decompose dead wood, providing a cycle of substances," the press service's Telegram channel says.
Earlier, on August 8, mycologist Maxim Dyakov listed the most useful mushrooms. These include varnished tinder, hedgehog, cordyceps and shiitake, but they are usually not consumed in large quantities. In addition, he mentioned the spherical sarcosoma, which is called the "witch's cauldron" because of its unusual shape. The mucus of this mushroom is used as a rejuvenating agent.
