Supporters of entrepreneur and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan have been waiting for a decision on the businessman's case for several hours, standing outside the courthouse where the hearing is taking place. Izvestia publishes footage from the scene on August 15.

Despite the lateness of the hour, crowds of people gathered outside the courthouse in Yerevan.

The newcomers are chanting slogans, holding phones with flashlights turned off and posters supporting Karapetyan.

Karapetyan was detained in his own home on June 18 after publicly expressing disagreement with attacks by Armenian Prime Minister Nikola Pashin on the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC). Former Armenian President Robert Kocharian said on August 1 that the Karapetyan-related trials were a "stupid attack" on a man who is a major investor, and also did not rule out the presence of elements of reprisals in this case.

Later, on August 11, the Armenian Court of Appeal declared Karapetyan's detention unlawful. Lianna Gasparyan, the businessman's lawyer, noted that her client had been unlawfully detained for at least nine hours.
