It is time for European leaders who are calling on the United States to strengthen sanctions against Russia to act on their own or accept it. This was stated by United States Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent on Fox Business on August 14.

"I would like to say that it's time for our European colleagues to either do something or shut up," he said.

Bessent noted that if they want to act as a "united front", the leaders of the European Union (EU) should also make their contribution. According to him, US President Donald Trump is acting within the framework of Washington's negotiating strategy, complementing "Газета.Ru ".

Earlier in the day, European Commission representative Ariana Podesta said that the EU has no plans to ease anti-Russian sanctions in the event of a diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

On August 13, the US Treasury Secretary stressed that in the event of an unsuccessful outcome of the Russian-American summit in Alaska, Washington could strengthen sanctions. He clarified that following the meeting, sanctions could be either tightened or weakened.
