Peskov pointed to the lack of political will in the European Union.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump have shown the political will to resolve the conflict in Ukraine through dialogue, unlike the European Union (EU). This was announced on August 14 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"We proceed from the goodwill shown by the presidents of the two countries to resolve issues through dialogue. Such mutual political will is now in short supply. We see that we probably won't get an adequate response, for example, from the Europeans," he said in a conversation with journalist Pavel Zarubin.
According to Peskov, the presidents of Russia and the United States will resolve the most difficult issues during a conversation at the Alaska summit.
On the same day, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that the central topic of the meeting between the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States would be the discussion of the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, Putin and Trump will also touch upon broader issues of ensuring peace and security. The Russian presidential aide clarified that the meeting would begin around 11:30 a.m. local time (22:30 Moscow time).
In addition to Ushakov, the Russian delegation will include Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Special Presidential Envoy for Cooperation with Foreign countries and Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
