WSJ: Trump listens to Stubb to assess the situation around Ukraine
US President Donald Trump is consulting with his Finnish counterpart Alexander Stubb on issues related to the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced by the head of Finland on August 14.
"I can tell Trump what the Europeans or [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky think, and then tell my European colleagues what Trump thinks," Stubb said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
In addition, the publication calls Stubb a key mediator between Washington and European politicians who seek to influence Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Earlier, on August 4, Stubb and Trump had a telephone conversation. During the conversation, the presidents discussed the Ukrainian issue and cooperation on icebreakers. The Finnish leader expressed the opinion that long-term negotiations should lead to a lasting and just peace.
