Hypersaline lakes began to dry up in Crimea. The salt content in reservoirs already exceeds 177 g /liter at the August average rate of 70 g/ liter, the press service of the Institute of Biology of the South Seas in Sevastopol reports.

We are talking about the lakes of the Tarkhankut group — Jarylgach, Yarylgach and Bakalskoye, and Oiburskoye near Popovka and Stormovoye. All reservoirs are located in the western part of the peninsula.

On Monday, August 11, scientists conducted a planned summer expedition to monitor the condition of water bodies. They carried out visual and instrument observations, as well as selected biological samples for further analysis at the institute.

"We were upset by what we saw. Accordingly, the biological condition of the reservoirs is not the same as we are used to," said Nikolai Shadrin, head of the expedition, quoted by the news agency SevastopolMedia.

According to the researcher, in the coming years in Crimea, as well as in the whole world, the problem with fresh water will worsen. He sees the solution to the problem as rational use of available water, a review of the structure of agriculture and a return to plans for water desalination.
