The Borzoi Museum of Local Lore presented a new exhibit — the fossilized remains of an ancient Lycoptera fish. Its age is about 150 million years, according to the Telegram channel of the government of the Trans-Baikal Territory.

The remains were found in a layer of volcanic ash. According to scientists, the find is a valuable exhibit and an important object for research. It can be used to study the anatomy of ancient fish and the ecosystem in which they existed.

Lycoptera is an extinct genus of fish that lived in the Lower Cretaceous period, approximately in the Barremian and Aptian Ages (from 125.7 to 113 million years ago). According to the ChitaMedia news agency, these creatures lived on the territory of modern China, North Korea, Mongolia and Siberia.

Also last week, the funds of the Borzinsky Museum of Local Lore were replenished with a new anthological collection from the 1970s. It includes diverse groups of insects that are important for studying the ecology and biodiversity of the region.

Earlier it was reported that the jawbone of one of the most ancient pterosaurs was discovered in North America. The creature was supposedly the size of a seagull.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
