Thousands of residents and tourists have been evacuated due to major forest fires in Greece and Spain. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 14.

A forest fire is raging in a remote part of the Greek island of Chios in the Aegean Sea. It is specified that the coast guard vessels have already evacuated people from the beaches.

At the moment, rescuers are restoring power supply after the destruction of a power pole as a result of a fire. In addition, specialists are involved in extinguishing fires near the cities of Patras and Xirochori in the western Peloponnese. At the same time, fires are mostly localized in the north of the country.

It is predicted that most of Greece, including Athens and the adjacent Attica region, will also face dangerous wildfires.

In addition, the air temperature is expected to rise to +42 degrees in Spain. More than a dozen roads have been closed due to fires, and high-speed train traffic on the Madrid–Galicia section has been suspended.

The agency notes that this week the European Union (EU) has sent firefighting planes and helicopters to help fight fires in Greece and Spain, among others.

Earlier, on July 27, more than 1,700 people were evacuated as a result of forest fires in Turkey. At the same time, it was clarified that on July 26, rescuers across the country encountered 84 fires. The north-west of the country, including the city of Karabyuk, was most under threat. The reasons were high temperatures, dry conditions and strong winds.

On the same day, it was noted that a fire in the forest area of the Turkish city of Bursa between the districts of Gyursu and Kestel approached residential buildings. Then several people were trapped surrounded by fire.
