- The Ukrainian police announced the closure of dozens of channels for the departure of draft dodgers abroad.
In Ukraine, a special operation was carried out to block dozens of channels that helped evaders from mobilization to travel abroad. This was announced on August 14 by the National Police of Ukraine.
"In one day, operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations and investigators of the National Police, together with the State Border Guard Service, prosecutors, the GBR [State Bureau of Investigation] and the SBU [Security Service of Ukraine] conducted more than 150 searches," the agency said in a Telegram channel.
It is specified that 34 defendants were transferred to the status of suspects, eight of them were detained. The estimated amount of funds that the organizers of the schemes for exporting conscripts abroad planned to receive from their clients is about $500 thousand.
Among the identified frauds are the registration of fictitious medical documents and disability groups, the removal from the wanted list, the entry of false data into the Path border crossing system, as well as the transportation of men of military age outside checkpoints on foot, by boat or in car caches. The cost depended on the method of transportation and ranged from $1 thousand to $25 thousand per person.
The National Police of Ukraine added that the organizers took the draft dodgers to Moldova, Romania, Poland, Slovakia and Belarus.
On June 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the Austrian authorities with a request to facilitate the return of Ukrainian men who evade military service to the territory controlled by Kiev. He also asked the Austrian authorities for help in finding former Ukrainian officials and oligarchs who are hiding from justice.
