The Tagansky District Court of Moscow refused to arrest the writer Grigory Chkhartishvili in absentia. (pseudonym — Boris Akunin, recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent, included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) in the framework of a criminal case on violation of the rules of a foreign agent. This was reported to TASS in court on August 14.

"The court received a request from the investigation to arrest Chkhartishvili in absentia, accused under Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent committed by a person after he was brought to administrative responsibility for a similar act"). The court returned the material to the investigative body without satisfaction," the court said.

It is noted that this criminal case was the second against the writer.

On July 14, the Second Western District Military Court sentenced Akunin in absentia to 14 years in the terrorism justification case. It was specified that Akunin would serve the first four years of his sentence in prison, and the rest of his term in a high—security colony. In addition, the court levied a fine of 400 thousand rubles from the writer, and also deprived him of the right to administer websites.

A criminal case was opened against Akunin for publicly justifying terrorism and spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces in December 2023. In the following months, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested him in absentia. The writer was put on the international wanted list and entered into the register of foreign agents.
