In Germany, they pointed out the lack of influence of the Merz in Europe and Germany
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, like the Europeans in general, does not have the influence that they are trying to demonstrate in Europe and in Germany. This opinion was shared by Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, in an interview with Izvestia.
"We have seen this: neither the European Union [EU] nor [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky were invited at all to the peace summit between [White House Chief of Staff Donald] Trump and [Russian leader Vladimir] Putin," he said.
According to Lindemann, Merz continues to support Ukraine and advocates the supply of weapons. At the same time, the deputy noted that the people of Germany no longer want to finance Kiev and do not support military aid. He noted that this is confirmed by the results of polls: the rating of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party and Merz himself is falling.
"The CDU party and Friedrich Merz have lost their positions in the ratings in Germany, and the AfD has now become the strongest in the polls in Germany. Yes, Merz, of course, makes himself the leader of the "Ukrainian coalition", which wants to defend Ukraine to the last Ukrainian. But this, of course, is not necessarily in the interests of Europe and also not in the interests of German citizens," Lindemann stressed.
The MP added that the Germans want peace and are waiting for the start of the summit between Trump and Putin, but they don't care much about the future of Ukraine.
Earlier, on August 9, the Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported that almost two thirds of German residents expressed dissatisfaction with the federal government and Merz, who have been in power for 100 days. It was clarified that only 27% of respondents reported that they were satisfied with Merz's actions.
