The European Union (EU) has become pathetic and is still interested in continuing the conflict on the territory of Ukraine. This was stated on August 14 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on the Harcosok Órája podcast.

"Over the past three and a half years, Europe, the European Union, and Brussels have pursued a wrong, harmful, erroneous, and dangerous strategy. <...> Not a strategy of peace, but a strategy of war," Szijjarto said.

According to the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, such a strategy has led to an irreconcilable deterioration of European-Russian relations. He added that Europe can no longer make decisions on its own, and Brussels has ceased to be a factor influencing world politics.

"Our competitiveness has deteriorated dramatically over the past few years due to overly politicized, overly ideological economic policies," Szijjarto said.

The EU has not only failed to stop the conflict in Ukraine, but also bears a crucial responsibility for its continuation, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said. According to him, the conflict could have been resolved in "a month and a half" after it began, but Europe forced Ukraine to continue.

"This [joint] statement [by the EU countries on Ukraine] makes it clear that Europe has become pathetic in this regard and that Brussels is still interested in continuing the <conflict>. This statement says that there should be no agreement in Alaska. And we are not ready to put our name under it," concluded the Hungarian Foreign Minister.

Earlier, on August 14, the media reported that Trump was afraid of Zelensky's presence during the talks in Alaska, as he could disrupt the negotiations. It was clarified that initially European officials also sought direct representation at the meeting in Alaska.

Zelensky said on August 12 that he did not intend to recognize the results of the negotiations between Russia and the United States in Alaska. In his opinion, it is impossible to talk about Ukraine without Ukraine itself, and such a format allegedly will not be accepted.

On August 8, the American leader announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. In turn, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region.
