- Germany will allocate $500 million for weapons to Kiev as part of the "new mechanism" of NATO
Germany intends to allocate $500 million for the supply of weapons to Kiev under a new mechanism called the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL — list of priority requirements of Ukraine). This was announced on August 13 by the country's Foreign Ministry.
"In order to continue meeting Ukraine's most pressing needs for military equipment <...>, Germany, together with other allies, is ready to finance one of the first comprehensive support packages totaling up to $500 million under the PURL mechanism," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
According to the published text, support will be provided by European countries, Canada and the USA. At the same time, the provision of this assistance will be monitored and coordinated by NATO.
The exported military equipment will include critical air defense systems.
In total, as the ministry stressed, for the entire period of providing assistance to Ukraine, Germany, once again proving its "allied solidarity" to Kiev, has spent almost €40 billion.
On August 1, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany would send two Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine after coordinating this action with the United States. He specified that additional components for this installation will be transferred to the Ukrainian side in the coming months. He also noted that Washington would send Berlin several more similar complexes as a matter of priority.
