Russian SAMBO wrestler Sofia Istomina, who won a gold medal at the World Games in Chengdu, China, called it an honor to be able to represent Russia at the competitions. She informed Izvestia about this on August 13.

"To all those who supported me, I would like to thank you very much. It is a great honor for me to play for our country," said the athlete.

She shared that she went to the competition in full combat readiness. The sambo wrestler noted that the semifinal match was especially important for her.

Russian SAMBO wrestler Hovhannes Abgaryan added that athletes from the Russian Federation were well received at the Games. He noted that he received a lot of vivid impressions and saw people from all over the world.

"You can come here once and see the whole world. All the people are here. And it's very atmospheric," the athlete added.

Earlier that day, Istomina won a gold medal at the World Games in Chengdu, China. She won the final of the up to 65 kg weight category, defeating Feruza Bobokulova from Uzbekistan. Abgaryan became the silver medalist in the category up to 79 kg.
