Axios: Zelensky faces a storm amid Russia's successes at the front
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is faced with a situation of a "perfect storm" of unfavorable circumstances against the background of Russia's successes at the front, growing discontent inside Ukraine and the upcoming summit with the participation of Russian and American leaders Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska. This was announced on Wednesday, August 13, by the Axios portal.
Zelensky is facing a perfect storm: Russia's sudden breakthrough on the battlefield, growing discontent at home, and the all—important summit in Alaska on Friday, which could drive him into a diplomatic corner.
According to Axios, Zelensky and his team are trying to influence Trump before his meeting with Putin. In addition, the leader of the Kiev regime downplays Russia's recent successes at the front and actively communicates with the heads of European states and other countries in order to insure against a negative outcome at the upcoming summit.
One of the Ukrainian officials noted that they "do not know how much they can influence Trump, but they must continue trying."
On August 12, American Thinker magazine criticized Zelensky for refusing to cede territories before the summit of the heads of Russia and the United States. The article noted that he speaks like a man convinced of his victory, although in fact Kiev is losing. The refusal of the Ukrainian leader to give up territories can only lead to the loss of sovereignty, the publication added.
On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. The American leader noted that details about the upcoming negotiations will be published later. Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region.
On August 12, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt named Anchorage in Alaska as the city where the summit of the Russian Federation and the United States will take place. She said that these negotiations will help identify steps to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
