The expert pointed out the benefits of paid parking in Moscow

Paid parking in the capital helps to solve the problem of landscaping adjacent territories and creating a comfortable urban environment. This was stated to Izvestia by Andrey Borisov, a leading expert at the Institute of Transport Economics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics.

"Moscow is a city that is continuously growing, including in terms of population. The more people there are in the city, the more cars there are on the roads. The problem cannot be solved if there are only parking lots everywhere in the city. Because in this case, the interests of other categories of citizens — not motorists — will be harassed. Many people would like to look out the window and see a beautiful green street with playgrounds or sports grounds, with comfortable and safe sidewalks — and not crowded with cars, some of which can be parked there for years," the expert pointed out.

As Borisov emphasized, paid parking helps to solve the pressing problems of arranging house territories and creating a comfortable environment in courtyards, among other measures.

"The seats are occupied either by local drivers, who are free of charge, or by those who really need it, but for a short period of time. This helps to control parking congestion, which means that more people will be able to find an empty space without wasting time searching and detouring, and there will be fewer violations. In addition, money from parking lots is used to improve the surrounding area. Paid parking is not only a way of regulation, but also an investment in a comfortable urban environment where the interests of all residents, not just motorists, are taken into account equally," the specialist concluded.

Starting from August 15, 2025, new sections of streets will be added to the residential permit area. The innovations have been coordinated with local municipal deputies. Residents of the streets who have entered the residential permit area will be able to continue parking without paying. To do this, it is enough to issue a parking permit on the portal. mos.ru .
