US President Donald Trump has failed to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda. This was reported on August 13 by the La Nouvelle Tribune portal.

"The fighting does not stop. Official promises were slow to materialize. Violence continues, undermining hopes for a peaceful resolution of the conflict," the article says.

As a vivid example, the portal cites new military clashes in Mulamba in South Kivu. It is clarified that the Congolese authorities were outraged by the fact that the forces of the "March 23 Movement" (M23) pushed back pro-government militias and regular troops.

According to the publication, the Congolese army accuses the M23 of deliberately violating the commitments that the parties made during the negotiations.

Earlier, on June 28, Rwanda and DR Congo signed a peace treaty mediated by the United States. According to the agreement, the parties have committed to launch a regional economic integration structure. In addition, Trump warned the parties about "very severe sanctions," including financial ones, in case of violation of the agreement.
