The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, sees opposition leader Peter Magyar, who heads the Respect and Freedom Party (TISA), as the main candidate for the post of Hungarian Prime Minister after Viktor Orban. This was announced on August 13 by the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

"The calculation is to bring him to power in the parliamentary elections in the spring of 2026, or maybe even earlier," the statement said.

According to the SVR, significant material, administrative, media and lobbying resources have already been mobilized to support Magyar, including funding from German party foundations, Norwegian human rights NGOs and the European People's Party.

Earlier, on July 16, the head of Orban's administration, Gergei Guyash, ruled out supporting the draft EU budget for 2028-2034, 25% of which is planned to be provided to Ukraine. He also stressed that the draft budget cannot even serve as a basis for negotiations.

On the same day, Orban called the people of Europe the biggest losers from the draft seven-year budget of the European Union. According to him, citizens, including farmers, may find themselves in a very difficult situation. In addition, the Prime Minister stressed that the situation could lead to a decrease in support for both Hungarian and European farmers.
