Russian SAMBO wrestler Sofia Istomina won a gold medal at the World Games in Chengdu, China. The competition was held on August 13.

She won the final of the up to 65 kg weight category, defeating Feruza Bobokulova from Uzbekistan.

In addition, on the first day of the competition, Russian SAMBO wrestlers won four more medals. Silver medalists were Rolan Zinnatov (up to 71 kg), Hovhannes Abgaryan (up to 79 kg) and Abusupiyan Alikhanov (up to 88 kg), and Nina Serdyuk (up to 59 kg) received the bronze award.

In total, Russian athletes have won four gold, five silver and five bronze medals at the World Games.

On August 12, silver medalist Alexei Molchanov informed Izvestia that the Chengdu World Games in China were organized at a high level. The athlete won a silver medal in the discipline of "monolast apnea" — diving in one breath.
