Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic does not intend to run for the next presidential election. He announced this on August 13 during a press conference following a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stoker.

"I am a political veteran, I can no longer run for president," the Kurir newspaper quoted him as saying.

The Serbian leader also clarified that he would end his presidential career in a year and a half and had no plans to change the country's Constitution. In addition, he allowed early elections to the Serbian parliament.

On the evening of August 12, protests took place in Serbian Vrbas, during which almost 70 people were injured, including 16 policemen. It was clarified that a group of citizens of the republic protested in front of the building of the Serbian Progressive Party and its supporters. Several people were detained.

The day before, on August 11, another protest rally was held in Belgrade. At that time, the protesters asked for Vucic's arrest after unidentified persons doused the entrances of three opposition leaders with paint. The crowd was bombarded with plastic balls (cartridges), especially active protesters who provoked others were detained.

The anti-government protests, which are attended by the Serbian opposition, began after 15 people died in November 2024 as a result of the collapse of the railway station in Novi Sad. The protesters blocked bridges and roads. On July 4, Vucic called on those who took to the streets not to block the city, threatening to use counteraction measures.

Later, on August 1, 2025, the President of Serbia called an emergency meeting of the Republic's Security Council in connection with the detention of former Minister of Construction Tomislav Momirovic, who was involved in the reconstruction of the train station where the collapse occurred.
