Bloomberg noted China's preparations for a trade war with the United States
The Chinese authorities were prepared in advance for a trade war with the United States and the possible imposition of duties, which American leader Donald Trump threatened against Beijing. This was reported on August 13 by Bloomberg, citing sources.
"Washington believes that China must be in a difficult situation right now. <...> The reality is completely different," the article says.
According to the agency, China's exports to the United States account for about 3% of GDP. This means that even if half of Chinese exports to the United States are destroyed, the impact on the Chinese economy as a whole will be only 1.5%.
In addition, China has "its own export control weapons," the authors of the article believe, implying the country's control over rare earth metals. According to open sources, Beijing controls up to 70% of global production and up to 90% of production of these elements. According to Bloomberg, it was this fact that Chinese politicians used at the talks in Geneva and London to "get concessions from the United States."
The authors of the article suggest that China has proved to be "so resilient" because its authorities have been preparing for years for the struggle that is "unfolding now."
On August 7, Trump announced new sanctions against Russia's trading partners. At the same time, the politician did not rule out that the United States could subsequently cancel duties of 25% against India for the purchase of Russian oil. In addition, restrictions on trade with Russia may be imposed on China.
Later, on August 11, CNBC reported that Trump's decision on increased tariffs on Chinese imports into his country would not take effect for at least another 90 days. It is assumed that the relevant decision could be due to the successful negotiations between the American and Chinese sides on trade issues, which were held in Switzerland at the end of July.
