Karapetyan announced the creation of a political movement "In his own way"

Businessman Samvel Karapetyan, who was arrested in Armenia, announced on August 13 that he would soon announce the creation of a political movement "In his own way."

According to him, this movement will become the basis for the creation of a new political force, and will also be formed around certain ideas and programs.

"Our goals are to develop the economy, create real business opportunities, strengthen family and national values, and restore Armenia's credibility as a reliable partner," Sputnik Armenia quoted him as saying.

Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18. He was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia, after which he was arrested for two months. Armenian politician Arman Abovyan called the businessman's detention an attempt to weaken the influence of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), which the businessman publicly supports.

On July 16, the businessman's Defense Council reported on the charges of alleged money laundering against its client. On August 11, it was reported that the Armenian Court of Appeal had declared Karapetyan's detention unlawful.
