- FT has learned about the reaction of Netanyahu's allies to the escalation of the conflict in Gaza
Allies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have opposed the head of the General Staff of the IDF amid the escalating conflict in the Gaza Strip. The Financial Times (FT) newspaper wrote about this on August 13.
According to the newspaper, two ministers in Netanyahu's government "attacked" the head of the Israeli army, Eyal Zamir. One of them called for his resignation amid "escalating disagreements between the country's political and military leaders."
According to the FT, Israeli ministers are increasingly publicly clashing with Zamir over issues such as Netanyahu's plan to take control of Gaza. According to senior military officials, this will lead to an "excessive burden on the army" and endanger the lives of the hostages.
"When the dispute reached a critical point, Netanyahu and Zamir's allies exchanged barbs in a series of leaks to the Israeli media," the article says.
On August 8, the Israeli Security Cabinet approved the decision of the country's Prime Minister to occupy the city of Gaza, located in the enclave of the same name. According to Reuters, Netanyahu intends to take control of the entire Gaza Strip, even despite increasing criticism both from abroad and inside the country. The next day, thousands of people protested in Tel Aviv against the Israeli Prime minister's plan to seize the Gaza Strip.
