Discounts and promotions on cars in Russia stimulate sales and lower prices for new cars. In July 2025, a record result was achieved with the sale of more than 120 thousand cars, which is associated with the sale of stocks of 2023 and 2024 models. In the autumn, the situation may change, which will lead to a decrease in supply and a possible increase in prices for new cars. This was announced on August 12 by Ilarion Demchikov, Marketing Director of the Emex auto parts marketplace.

"Today, the car market in Russia is characterized by the availability of discounts and promotions. Due to the sales of stock cars for 2023 and 2024, the average cost of a new car in the country is about 3 million rubles. This was an incentive for the sale of more than 120,000 new cars in July, the best result since the beginning of this year. At the same time, the volume of sales in July last year amounted to more than 136 thousand units," Demchikov said.

As the expert noted, despite the availability of discounts on last year's models, which account for about 45% of all sales, there is a possibility that the situation will change in the fall. An increase in demand may lead to a decrease in supply, cancellation of promotions, and even a slight 2% increase in new car prices.

In addition, car pricing policies can also be influenced by factors such as changes in the Central Bank's key interest rate, currency fluctuations, and competition between brands. In March 2025, sales of four models of the KGM brand, which is a brand of the South Korean SsangYong concern, began, which may also affect the market.

"One of the main factors determining the choice of a car by buyers in the current conditions remains the reliability of the brand and specific models, the availability of manufacturer's warranty obligations, as well as the cost of car ownership and maintenance," concluded Demchikov.

On August 5, the analytical agency Autostat reported that by the end of July 2025, 120,649 new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 11.4% less than in July 2024. Lada retains its leadership with an impressive advantage: it accounted for about a quarter (23.41%) of the total volume, with 28,240 copies sold. The most popular foreign brand in July was Chery, with a circulation of 13,502 units. Haval dropped to the third place (13,117 units), followed by Geely and Changan — 8,389 and 7860 units. accordingly.
