Anatoly Adamishin, former Minister of the Russian Federation for CIS Affairs, has died at the age of 90. This was announced on August 13 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We regret to inform you that the retired Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Adamishin, born in 1934, has died," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

Zakharova stressed that Adamishin had worked in various positions in the Foreign Ministry for 40 years. An obituary will be published soon, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.

During his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adamishin served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR from 1986 to 1990 and as the first Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia from 1997 to 1998. In addition, he was the Minister of the Russian Federation for CIS Affairs from 1997 to 1998. Adamishin also served as Ambassador of the USSR and then Russia to Italy (1990-1992) and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom (1994-1997).
