- The Russian Center in Alaska noted the interest of local residents in the Russian Federation
Residents of Alaska are showing interest in Russia. Irina Derguleva, a representative of the Russian Cultural Center in Alaska, told Izvestia about this on August 13.
"There is a lot of interest in both Russians and Russia anyway. Many people have a positive attitude," said Derguleva.
According to her, there are still Russian buildings, churches, monuments, utensils and even a system of everyday life in Alaska. In addition, the Orthodox faith plays an important role.
It is noted that the Russian cultural center in the state regularly holds events to preserve the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, and also lays flowers at the monuments to Soviet soldiers.
On August 8, US President Donald Trump announced a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska. On August 15, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region.
On August 12, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt named Anchorage in Alaska as the city where the summit of the Russian Federation and the United States will take place. She said that these negotiations will help identify steps to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, CNN named the Elmendorf-Richardson joint military base as the venue for negotiations.
