Indian Air Force Chief: Russian S-400 played a crucial role in the war with Pakistan
The Russian S-400 air defense system has had an important impact on the course of the conflict between India and Pakistan. This was stated by the Commander of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh in an interview.
According to him, the S-400 system did not allow the Pakistani air forces to approach such distances from which they could strike. The head of the Air Force said that this system made it possible to shoot down 5 enemy fighters.
"This is the largest ever recorded destruction of a surface-to—air target that we can talk about," Singh said. His words are quoted by Military Watch Magazine.
The minister also stressed that thanks to this system, a "turning point" in the conflict had been reached. According to the newspaper, India acquired the S-400, despite the threat of sanctions from the United States. In the future, the country plans to consider the purchase of Russian Su-57 fighter jets and the S-500 system.
Earlier, on June 27, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh discussed with his Russian counterpart Andrei Belousov the delivery of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in a short time. The Indian Ministry of Defense noted that during the meeting, the ministers also raised issues of upgrading Su-30MKI fighters and purchasing necessary military equipment, discussed the geopolitical situation and the problem of international terrorism.
Relations between Pakistan and India have been strained since the terrorist attack on April 22 near the Indian city of Pahalgam in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. 27 civilians were killed. On May 7, the Indian Ministry of Defense announced the start of the Sindoor military operation against Pakistan. He, in turn, launched retaliatory missile strikes on Indian territory.
