Reuters reported on the four-layer defense of the "Golden Dome" of the United States
The US Golden Dome missile defense system, which was previously mentioned by American leader Donald Trump, is likely to consist of four levels — one satellite and three ground-based. This was reported on August 13 by the Reuters news agency, citing a government presentation.
According to information received by the agency, the satellite part of the system will be responsible for early warning of missile launches and their tracking, as well as missile defense. On the Ground, the system will include three levels: interceptor missiles, a radar network, and possibly laser installations.
In addition, it is planned to deploy 11 short-range batteries in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. It is planned to deploy a new missile field for new generation interceptors (NGI) developed by Lockheed Martin in the Midwestern United States.
As shown in the presentation slides, the system should be deployed by 2028. However, uncertainty remains about the exact characteristics of the system, including the number of launchers, interceptors, and missile bases.
In May, Trump declared that the "Golden Dome" is necessary for the United States to survive. According to Trump, the country's administration plans to allocate about $175 billion for it.
On July 22, Reuters reported that the American leader is looking for alternatives to billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX to implement the Golden Dome project. The reason was the desire of the authorities to reduce dependence on a single supplier, the publication clarifies.
