An Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip and the subsequent seizure of the Palestinian enclave would be a disaster. This was announced on August 12 by the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Haja Labib.

"A complete military takeover of Israel would turn into a disaster: mass casualties, destruction of infrastructure and threat to hostages," she wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

According to the European commissioner, the Palestinian enclave is on the verge of starvation, while aid is blocked.

As Politico noted, Labib became the second EU commissioner in recent days to publicly condemn Israel's actions.

Netanyahu's cabinet approved the plan after ten hours of consultations.
