The study confirmed the effectiveness of laughter therapy to reduce anxiety
Laughter therapy shows a significant reduction in anxiety and an increase in life satisfaction in adults. This is evidenced by the data of a study published on the Medical Xpress portal, the results of which were reviewed by Izvestia on August 13.
Laughter therapy as a method of combating anxiety and increasing life satisfaction has received attention thanks to meta-analysis. As a result, 33 clinical trials conducted from 1991 to 2024 were analyzed, in which 2,159 adults participated. The study participants went through various social and medical conditions, which allowed the scientists to draw more informed conclusions.
The results of the meta-analysis showed a significant reduction in anxiety and increased life satisfaction. Compared to the control groups that did not receive intervention, laughter therapy demonstrated significant benefits.
For example, for anxiety, the effect of laughter therapy was strong, while for conventional therapy, this effect was moderate. However, in the online format, laughter therapy has demonstrated minimal effect on reducing anxiety, which may indicate the importance of social activity in real life for the effectiveness of the method.
