Andrey Dorokhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry named after A.N. Reformatsky RTU MIREA, warned about the health risks due to repeated boiling of water.

In conversation with Lenta. On Tuesday, August 12, he noted that the possible harm of re-boiling is not due to the process itself, but to the quality of the source water. According to Dorokhov, provided that the source water meets sanitary standards, repeated boiling does not lead to the formation of new harmful substances. In Russia, he explained, the quality of tap water is controlled by SanPiN, which sets acceptable concentrations of nitrates, chlorine, heavy metals and other components.

At the same time, the specialist added that there are certain physico-chemical processes that should be taken into account. According to him, with each boiling, part of the liquid evaporates, and the concentration of mineral salts such as calcium and magnesium increases. This can cause scale formation, impair the taste of the water, and reduce heating efficiency.

The expert recommended using fresh water for making drinks in order to preserve its taste and reduce scale formation. He added that a significant amount of sediment in the kettle may indicate high water hardness. In this case, according to him, it is worth installing a household filter with ion exchange resin or regularly cleaning the kettle with citric acid, writes RT.

On August 7, Dorokhov said that for water purification from pollution, a method is suitable in which the water is first saturated with oxygen, as a result of which iron becomes a precipitate. After that, the metal is removed using a conventional filter.

In February, general practitioner and parasitologist Eduard Bartuli warned that when choosing a water source, one should carefully approach the issue and pay attention to safety. He also advised using water purification at home. Tap water must be filtered or boiled to remove giardia, according to RIAMO.

Earlier, infectious disease specialist Anatoly Altstein advised washing fruits and boiling water to escape from rotavirus at sea. According to him, the only way to prevent this is to comply with sanitary and hygienic rules: you need to drink only clean water and eat safe foods. 360.ru .

Last December Pravda.Ru She wrote that for disinfection, water is boiled for at least 5 minutes, and if there is a risk of dangerous viruses or bacterial spores, the time is increased. Repeated boiling of water reduces its benefits: useful substances disappear, and salts concentrate. It is better to use fresh water every time and clean the kettle from scale.

Prior to this, NSN, citing experts, wrote that the water quality depends on the region and the condition of the pipes: rust and bacteria on their walls can cause problems with the digestive tract, and metal salts can provoke urolithiasis.
