The sun has thrown out a new giant prominence
That night, the Sun's emissions of giant prominences resumed. This was announced on August 12 by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"After about a two—week break, emissions of giant prominences resumed on the Sun. <...> On August 11, a new large object was registered near the south pole of the Sun, observed between 21 and 24 hours Moscow time," the Telegram channel said.
It is noted that prominences appearing at any point of the Sun are less likely to reach the Earth than, for example, flares. Even when ejected, an accurate direction towards the planet is required. In this case, the giant fiber flew away, but with a direct hit, it is the prominences that cause the strongest geomagnetic storms, the IKI RAS emphasized.
On July 5, the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS reported that a record-breaking large prominence was recorded on the Sun. It was noted that a plasma structure measuring more than 1 million km was ejected towards the North Pole of the Solar System between 09:00 and 14:00 Moscow time.
