The number of registered motorcycles for seven months has been named.
In Russia, only one in three motorcycles is registered. This was announced on August 12 by Sergey Tselikov, General Director of the Autostat analytical agency.
According to Autostat, 96.8 thousand units of new motorcycles were imported to Russia in the first seven months of 2025, which is 58% more than in the same period last year. Another 28.4 thousand motorcycles were produced in Russia (+8%). At the same time, only 36.3 thousand units of motor vehicles were registered in January-July (+16%).
"That is, only every third bike is registered," Tselikov summed up in his Telegram channel.
The main reason, according to the general director of Autostat, is pitbikes, mini cross/enduro motorcycles with an engine from 50 to 200 "cubes", with a capacity of up to 15 hp. They do not have to be registered, but they cannot be driven on public roads.
Tselikov also drew attention to the fact that there are too many pit bikes, which poses a threat to traffic safety.
The leader of the Fair Russia — For Truth faction, Sergei Mironov, in a conversation with Izvestia on June 18, proposed introducing a ban on the operation of pit bikes on public roads in traffic regulations and punishing adults for handing pit bikes to children in the Administrative Code. He also suggested instructing the Federal Customs Service to assess the legality of importing motorcycles according to HS codes related to sports equipment, assess the volume of such imports, including over the past years, and add an unpaid recycling fee.
In addition, in an appeal to the government, the parliamentarian proposed instructing Rosstandart to evaluate which category of vehicles motorcycles (Ataki, Apollo, BSE, Kayo, Koshine, Kove, Motoland, Promax, PWR Racing, Racer and others) sold as bicycles or sports equipment should belong to the Russian market, and designate the need for their certification.
