Over the past day, 323 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 42 people were killed and 390 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on August 12 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

19 bus accidents were recorded, in which one person was killed, and another 25 road users, including two children, required medical attention. The cause of 11 incidents were traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 61 accidents involving pedestrians, two people were killed, and 59 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 16 child pedestrians, 5 of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 17 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 44 outside their area of operation.

62 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 67 young road users were injured, including 37 passengers, 16 pedestrians, five cyclists, and eight drivers.

In the Kemerovo region, a twelve-year-old pit bike driver drove into the oncoming lane where he collided with a truck. As a result of the accident, the child died from his injuries at the scene.

In Tuva, a 24-year-old drunk driver of a passenger car, who had never been issued a driver's license, collided with a car moving ahead in the opposite direction, making a U-turn. As a result of the accident, two passengers of the car of the culprit of the accident were killed, among whom was a seven-month-old girl who was transported in violation of safety requirements.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urges parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting the management of cars and motor vehicles without the appropriate right and driving skills. The lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially during a country holiday, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department emphasizes.

"Motorcyclists of any age should be prohibited from entering public roads without studying at a driving school and obtaining a driver's license of the appropriate category, as well as refrain from using motor vehicles unregistered in accordance with the established procedure. We also remind you that pit bikes, which are sports equipment, can only be operated on specialized tracks. When driving on public roads, drivers of such vehicles automatically become violators of traffic rules and are subject to administrative responsibility in accordance with the established procedure," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

He also recalled the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated and urged road users not to remain indifferent to the problem of drunkenness at the wheel and promptly inform the police about drivers who behave inappropriately on the road. Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate are ready to take all necessary operational measures to respond to such reports, Anton Belan noted.

Earlier that day, an accident involving an excavator occurred in the Jewish Autonomous Region, resulting in the death of a boy born in 2020.
