On August 12, a memorial service was held in Kursk for the crew members of the K-141 Kursk nuclear submarine missile cruiser who died 25 years ago. Their relatives, representatives of government and public organizations came to honor their memory.

"The Kursk tragedy is a tragedy for the whole country. But for Kursk, this is a double tragedy. <...> Seven Kuryans were among the dead. Almost all of them are here, on our central memorial to the memory of the fallen. We remember the heroes," said Alexander Khinshtein, Acting Governor of the Kursk region.

In his Telegram channel, he added that he would hold a meeting with the relatives of the victims and discuss how else to perpetuate the memory of the Kursk crew.

"They are remembered and will always be remembered. They fulfilled their duty to us, to the Motherland. And we can only live in a different way," said Valentina, a resident of Kursk, who participated in the memorial service.

The nuclear-powered missile-carrying submarine Kursk sank on August 12, 2000 in the Barents Sea at a depth of 108 m. There were 118 people on board, all of them died. The government commission called the cause of the tragedy a torpedo explosion in the bow compartment of the submarine.
