Sobyanin appreciated the role of the City of Heroes project in fostering patriotism

The patriotic project "City of Heroes", launched in Moscow in 2016, has more than 750 events that brought together about 10,000 Muscovites. This was announced on his blog by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

The City of Heroes project is designed to preserve and pass on to young people the memory of the exploits of the heroes of the Fatherland, as well as to support them in the implementation of their own patriotic projects, said the Mayor of Moscow. In 2022, students from Moscow Pedagogical City University and the Higher School of Economics expanded the idea by offering to tell Muscovites about their neighbors, who can rightfully be called wonderful people. The student project "Hero of my district" quickly became an urban project, the mayor noted.

"The projects "City of Heroes" and "Hero of my District" make their own very important contribution to the preservation of historical memory and patriotic education of young residents of the capital," wrote the mayor of Moscow.

Sobyanin said that the students organized more than 250 patriotic actions – laying flowers at the monuments of the Great Patriotic War and military graves. In addition, the students have concerts dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Mourning, Defender of the Fatherland Day and other memorable dates. Since the beginning of the special military operation, many project participants have joined the work to support the Russian troops, Sobyanin stressed.

More than 100 "Patriotic Hours" are among the landmark events of the "City of Heroes" project, the mayor noted. As part of these actions, meetings were held with heroes of Russia, war correspondents, participants in a special military operation and representatives of veteran organizations.

"Heroes are not special people. In most cases, they live next to us, on the same street, in the same house, and even in the same stairwell," Sobyanin wrote.
