Transferring communication to unofficial messengers, frequent changes of banking details, and pressure on the urgency of payment are among the top ten signs of fraud in online purchases. This was announced on August 12 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The department added that the requirements for transferring money to an individual's card and additional "refundable" contributions also indicate fraud attempts when shopping online.

"Instant refund guarantee. Example: "We will return the insurance money in 10-15 minutes," Reality: The refund is artificially blocked by the "new rules," the Interior Ministry described another method of deception.

Other suspicious signs are a sudden change in the minimum withdrawal amount, blocking refunds at the checkout stage, abandoning alternative shipping methods, and insurance as a mandatory down payment.

On August 3, the Russian Interior Ministry warned that fraudsters had begun using deepfakes from well-known automotive experts or bloggers in order to deceive Russians when selling used cars. It is clarified that in the scheme, the attackers use the method of social engineering — they write that the price is valid only on that day, or they refer to the fake interest of others in the purchase.
