Due to the sharp increase in the incidence of meningococcal infection in Russia, urgent measures must be taken. This was reported on August 12 by doctors and infectious diseases specialists.

At the moment, 1,200 cases of meningococcal infection have been reported in the country, last year this figure reached 600 for the whole year.

"At the moment, there has already been a twofold increase, which indicates the need to introduce additional measures, in particular vaccination, in particular of vulnerable groups, if you follow the latest SanPiN for the prevention of infectious diseases," said Ekaterina Stepanova, an infectious disease specialist, Candidate of medical Sciences, in a conversation with RBC.

According to Mikhail Favorov, MD, it is necessary to be vaccinated against meningococcal infection. At the same time, it is important that the vaccine provides "protective immunity to all serotypes."

"These vaccines are there, they have been invented, we need to invest money in their production and start producing them," Favorov said.
