- China will take necessary measures to suspend non-tariff measures against the United States.
The People's Democratic Republic of China (PRC) and the United States intend to bilaterally support the extension of the tariff pause for another 90 days. This was reported by the Xinhua news Agency on August 12.
"The United States <...> will suspend the 24% tariff for 90 days from August 12, 2025, while maintaining the remaining 10% tariffs. <...> China <...> will take or maintain the necessary measures to suspend or cancel non—tariff countermeasures against the United States," the text of the published and agreed Geneva US-Chinese Declaration says.
It is noted that China will also maintain a 10% rate on goods from the United States. At the same time, as noted, the American side will continue to amend the application of ad valorem tariffs on goods from China, in particular those supplied from Hong Kong and Macau, and the Chinese side will review tariffs on goods from the United States.
According to the statement, this document was drawn up based on the agreements reached by Washington and Beijing in Geneva, London and Stockholm in the spring of 2025. In addition, it is specified that the United States was represented by American Treasury Secretary Scott Besent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer, and China was represented by Vice Premier He Lifeng.
CNBC TV channel, citing sources from the White House, on the same day announced the intention of American President Donald Trump not to increase duties on imports from China for another 90 days. It was clarified that the relevant order was signed a few hours before midnight, at which time the duties promised by Trump could come into effect.
