American leader Donald Trump chose Alaska as the venue for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin because this region is strategically important. This was announced on August 12 in an interview with Izvestia by former Alaska Vice Governor Lauren Lehman.

"I think he likes Alaska. But the other reason is that this is a strategically important place," Lehman said.

In addition, the former vice governor suggested that Adak Island, which is located in the Aleutian Archipelago, could be a possible venue for negotiations between Putin and Trump, since it is quite remote and inconvenient for media representatives. Besides, practically no one lives there, so there won't be any security issues.

"The most likely location, although I have no insider information, is likely to be Anchorage, specifically the Elmendorf-Richardson joint base," the official said.

According to him, the city of Fairbanks, which is located in the central part of Alaska, may also be a backup option for the meeting.

On August 11, the American media named the Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska, as one of the alleged locations of representatives of the Russian delegation. Journalist Vladimir Artyukhov noted that in 2021, three rounds of US-Chinese negotiations were also held at this hotel.
