Zakharova spoke about the work on countering the information war of the West
Russia is successfully countering the information war of Western states by creating new mechanisms to refute false information. This was announced on August 12 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"A mechanism for rapid response to fakes has been created and is successfully functioning: we refute and disseminate countertheses. We use anti—fake refutations and analysis of media publications and stuffing," she said in an interview with the Expert newspaper.
According to Zakharova, the dissemination of false information by Western media "pushes the whole planet towards disaster." She also added that such materials are recorded and preserved because the online space is constantly being purged and censored.
Zakharova clarified that a new section has recently been launched on the Foreign Ministry's website, which will collect examples of the use of "hate speech" by representatives of Western states.
She noted that civil society and expert initiatives also play an important role in the fight against fakes. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry cited the example of the creation of the Global Factchecking Network in Moscow last November, which develops uniform standards for verifying information.
According to Zakharova, one of the points of the information war of Western countries is the rewriting of history.
"The goal of the falsifiers is to reformat consciousness globally, justify Nazi criminals and destroy the memory of the heroic deed of the Soviet people," she said.
She cited the example of the Oscar—winning film "Real Pain," which contains many outrageous episodes, in one of which the main character, the grandson of a woman who survived the Holocaust and was therefore saved by the Red Army, invites a group to take pictures at a monument to the rebels, who, in his own words, "fought with the damn Russians and Germans."".
In addition, Zakharova added that in recent years there has been an active substitution of facts. By destroying monuments, Western countries are trying to erase the physical evidence of the exploits of the Soviet people, and they are also using AI technologies to forge archives. According to her, this is being done to fundamentally alter history at a new technological level.
On July 2, Zakharova announced that Moscow and Baku intend to coordinate their joint efforts to minimize fakes about the relations between the two countries. She made such a statement after the Ministry of Education and Science of Azerbaijan denied information in the media about alleged plans to stop teaching in Russian in the republic.
