- Bloomberg has learned about Zelensky's and EU leaders' plans to hold talks with Trump.
The leaders of the European Union (EU) countries and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky are going to hold a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on August 13. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 11.
"European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will hold a telephone conversation with Donald Trump on Wednesday [August 13] before the meeting of the US president on Friday [August 15] in Alaska with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin," the publication says.
According to Stefan Cornelius, chief spokesman for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, American Vice President Jay Dee Vance will also join the conversation. In addition to Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as the prime ministers of Italy, Poland and Finland will also take part in the telephone conversation, Cornelius said.
He added that the talks would "consider further options for exerting pressure on Russia."
On the same day, Bloomberg reported that Zelensky and the heads of European countries were trying to prepare for a meeting between Putin and Trump in Alaska. It is noted that Kiev and its allies are trying to "avoid an outcome in which Ukraine will be forced to lose a significant part of its eastern territory."
On August 8, Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. In turn, Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov called the choice of a venue for negotiations logical. He said that the economic interests of the states intersect in the region.
